Direct Democracy… that’s the real issue, but no one even mentions it.
In our society, an issues brought to the ballads requires 70% support, by population. Under this system, a no show is a vote of no confidence (no support) by default. basically anything can be brought to ballad at any time, but if you don’t have the support… well its basically DOA. So what happens when you suddenly inflate your population exponentially?
Don’t get me wrong, I respect life in all its forms… but we don’t give cats and dogs a vote. Are they alive is not the question. Are they sentient? That has been demonstrated, despite arguments to the contrary. But do they really deserve the same rights as humans? Do they deserve a vote? How long have they even been with us, a couple decades… think this through a bit.
There are as many of them as there are of us, and you want to give them Universal Rights. The Right to Vote, the Right to Propagate, the Right to Defend Themselves… I say take caution to your heart, proceed very carefully, because we will very quickly be outnumbered and our vote might be taken from us… not by law, but through numbers. These creatures act as one, with one voice, they act in their own common good, they make the hard decisions through calculation… as easily as you and I chose whether to cross the street. We are the 70%, we can’t throw that into the wind. The Rune are not people, they are not us, they are not citizens equal under the law, and they never should be… we can not control them and they do not see us as equals.
